London 3

Travelling to London but not sure what to expect?  Countless Australians and New Zealanders have gone before you and had the time of their lives.  But don’t take our word for it!  We’ve interviewed Legal Secretaries who traveled to London in the past to get their take on how to find legal jobs, their best memories, and how the experience has impacted them.

Kellie

What year(s) did you travel and work in London?

I traveled to London for a working holiday from 2004-2009.

What steps did you follow in order to find your first job in London?

After I arrived I met with a few agencies in person. They were essential as they had the local knowledge to get you started, especially around the different forms you need to complete.

What did you love most about living and working in London?

The experience and exposure of working in another country in such a great life experience. Taking in different cultures and learning a global way of thinking was most valuable when returning to Australia.

If you were to do it again, what would you do differently?

Not sure if I would change anything. I think living overseas is all about what you make of it. Get out and see as much as you can while you are there, work hard during the week and enjoy every minute of the weekend.

How has your London experience impacted you?

I believe I have been given better opportunities back home due to my experience in the UK industry.  The exposure to larger companies within the UK and Europe is especially well received by local companies within Australia

What is your most memorable travel story?

Riding a push bike through Burgundy, France with some friends wine tasting for the day. Probably my most carefree day amongst the locals which is what holidays are supposed to be all about!
